A: Bail is a typical part of the legal system that allows for an accused person to be temporarily released; Provided court dates are made. The bond is requested and posted to ensure that the accused will appear in court when required to do so.

Q: How do bail bonds work?

A: The court will determine your bail amount and our staff will provide you with a “bail bond” to guarantee payment of the full bail amount to the court. This will only be necessary if the defendant chooses not appear for all of their scheduled court dates. Bail services also charge a “premium” of 10% of the total bail amount, in addition to any added fees for booking. Please note that the premium paid to your bail bondsman is non-refundable.

Q: What's the difference between the premium and the bond amount?

A: The bail bond amount is the full amount of money set by the court for your bail. The premium is the amount of money charged by our company for the services of your bondsman. There are typically 3 types of bonds in the MO court system. Cash Bond- Family Member or Friend posts 100% of the money. Cash surety bond, a bondsman can post for 10% of the full bond amount, this requires a co signer on all bonds, and 10% to the court. A family member, friend, or bondsman can post to the court but are liable for the full bond amount. 

Q: What is a co-signer?

A: A co-signer is a person willing to be held responsible for the defendant, while he or she is released on bail to help guarantee the defendants appearances at court. Our Co signer is liable for the full bond amount to the company. 

Q: When does forfeiture take place?

A: Forfeiture takes place if a defendant chooses not to appear on his or her appointed court date. A warrant is then issued for the arrest of the defendant for their failure to appear. However, in some cases, it is possible for a bond to be reinstated by the defendant who is working with Keith Douglas Bail Bonds, so we can report it to the court in order for a new date to be scheduled.

A: Reinstatement is the process during which a defendant who missed their court date contacts the bondsman to report to the court and set up another court date. This process could also result in additional fees for the defendant and co-signer in some cases.

Q: Is the premium paid to Keith Douglas Bail Bonds refundable?

A: No. All premiums paid for services rendered are non-refundable.

Q: Can a Judged assign special conditions to a bond?

A: Yes, such conditions are GPS monitoring, drug testing, house arrest, no alcohol or drug consumption, and other various conditions to help guarantee the return of the defendant to court. In some cases monetary fees apply.
